The Pianist

I thought the Pianist was a great movie with a lot of realism involved.  I felt the movie was a great illustration of what actually occurred during this time period.  I thought it was really interesting how the pianist actually survived the entire time throughout everything that he had to endure.  I thought it was really amazing how one can survive on such little things.  I thought the movie was very informative to people such as I who are not as educated on this topic.  I think it was really helpful to see what actually went on in Germany during this time period and was realistic.  I recommend this movie to people who don't know much about the nazi's to watch this film because it definitely gives a real life impression.  The movie made me really upset and feel so bad for everyone who had to go through this.  Also, the harsh images such as the guy who was pushed out the window in his wheelchair really struck me as shocking and made me realize how seriously and the struggle people went through day to day.  I think overall this movie was a really good eye opener for me who didn't know that much about the nazi's and thought it was depicted accurately and historically.

I think Hosenfield really realized once he saw Szpliman that this is ridiculous and that people need to come out from hiding once and for all and live as free americans.  Szpliman's physical appearance I think also played an influence because you could clearly tell he hasn't showered or ate in a very long time.  I think the nazi guard sympathized with Szpliman and realized that these people are innocent and that it isn't right to just kill innocent people.  This part made me really relieved.  I was also surprised to see the pianist trust Hosenfield because obviously this guy could end his life right then and there.  I think it was Szpliman's last chance to try and trust someone with his life and this was the only opportunity that came through.  If the guard didn't bring him food and other supplies that are necessities to survive that he would eventually die.  I think it was a great thing Hosenfield did because he saved someones lives and gave the pianist a chance to live his life again as a free man.
