The Hurt Locker

This film was just ok.  I liked the concept of learning about what a bomb technician does and seeing the actual events in war was interesting but I felt like the movie needed more plot then what it was. I think parts of the movie were really interesting because I have never really taken the time to think about in places like iraq where our troops are located and what they actually do on a daily basis.  Learning about that was neat to me but I felt like after awhile I got it and the movie needed to move on. However,  in history we often learn about wars but rarely go in depth of learning about the certain positions such as a bomb technician and the detailed things like that.  Learning about the suits they wear and the weapons was really interesting but I felt that wasn't enough for the movie.  I thought the parts where the soldiers would make the civilians drop their phones was really interesting because I never thought about blowing bombs up from peoples phones and that kind of made me worry about all the people who could program that kind of stuff on their phone here in America.  I think the lasting impression I got from this film was the harsh reality of going to war and truly putting your life on the line for your country.  I think that is a great message for everyone to realizes and appreciate these people and what they do for us everyday.

The entire movie I thought about why this movies title is the one it is.  After thinking about it I believe the hurt locker is a slang word for where you go after you are severely injured like for example if a bomb goes off and you're right near it you are said to be going into the hurt locker.  I think this was also displayed in the movie when they are removing the bomb/wound from the guys heart that that was an example of going to the hurt locker or a figurative way to say extremely hurt.

Captain Phillips

Amazing movie.  This being the second time I have seen the film I realized why I like this movie so much.  The movie gets me really involved throughout the entire film making me more and more interested as to whats going to happen to Captain Philips and if the pirates are going to keep him alive or kill him.  I thought the acting was phenomenal because it really seemed as if the whole movie was real and kept me engaged the entire time. The actor who played Captain Phillips did a great job because he really portrayed the emotions well of one who was kidnapped and take under hostage and made me sympathize with him and fear for his life too.  I find the plot so interesting because I have never really seen a movie about pirates other than the Pirates of the Carribean which is hollywoodized already.  I thought it was so neat to see how these pirates would get onto these huge ships and make people pay them millions of dollars.  I didn't realize how big of a problem this once was on the coast of Somolia and thought it was really cool to learn about.  Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and will definitely be watching it again in my free time.

Apollo 13

I thought this movie was really interesting because I have never really thought about the difficulties and the tremendous amount of money that goes into a space exploration.  This movie made me think more about space and how difficult it is to take a trip to the moon.  I thought the acting in this movie was really good because they portrayed the emotions and stress going into the mission and it made me feel like I was involved in the mission.  I also thought it was really interesting to see how many trials it takes just to get the mission up and running.  I thought this movie was really interesting and actually made me curious about other space missions since the apollo 13 and learn more about space and the aircrafts that carry the people to space.  I think the whole idea behind space and the spaceships is really interesting.

I definitely think the funding for Nasa should continue because knowing more about space helps us learn about the earth and where things come from and how things have evolved.  I think the money going into NASA is really beneficial for learning about earth and answer a lot of questions that scientists have been awaiting the answers too.  Also, we have spent so much money already on space that why give up now.  All that money we have spent and to cut the budget would be a waste.  I feel we are getting closer and closer to further exploring life on space that it is definitely worth spending money on and continuing the exploration.

Since the retirement of the space shuttle I think we should definitely still try and get ahead of other countries.  We are the United States of America and need to always be ahead and explore space before others get ahold and claim it as their own.  I think we should definitely continue sending shuttles to space because it helps the earth learn more about itself and could be beneficial to several other aspects of the world.

United 93

United 93 isn't the type of movie you like or dislike.  It'a a movie of a matter of fact.  These events that occured in the movie were so powerful and will always stick in my mind.  I thought the movie did an amazing job to depict what actually happened but no movie will ever do it justice.  I think the actors of the hijackers also did a good job because it made me think about what I would do if I was put in that position. This movie made me think even deeper to the events that actually happened and it is truly a scary image and an unfortunate reality for the people involved.  I can't even wrap my head around the feelings these people must have had as they learned their plane was hijacked.  The part where everyone was calling their loved ones was also very moving and realistic.  I can't imagine having to call my family saying goodbye because I was on a plane that had been hijacked. That part really made me think how unbelievably frightened these people were.  If I was in that situation I really don't know what I would do. This movie was really informative for me because I never really thought about the events leading up to the attack such as the plane ride over to the incident.  After seeing this movie gave me another perspective on 9/11 that will never be forgotten.
